Banana leaves are the leaves most often used to wrap traditional foods and cakes such as lemper, bugis bathing, there are also pepes, botok, and others. The reason food vendors use banana leaves as a wrapper is because banana leaves have a distinctive aroma. Its use can make food taste more delicious.

 

But besides banana leaves, there are also several types of leaves that are often used as food wrappers. The following 5 food wrapping leaves besides banana leaves are:

  1. Teak Leaves

The leaves of this teak tree have a distinctive scent. Cirebon special rice jamblang is one food that uses it as a wrapper. Whereas the areas of Yogyakarta, East Java, and Central Java, used to use teak leaves to wrap tempeh.

  1. Bowl leaves

As the name implies, these leaves are concave shaped like a bowl. Some regions in Indonesia have different nicknames for this leaf. The Sundanese used to call it mamanukan leaf, East Java people call it godong mangkokan, while in Ambon and Papua it is called papeda leaf. Some foods such as sago porridge, pepes, and pecel also use the leaves as a container.

  1. Corn Sheep Leaves

Corn fronds leaves have a distinctive scent that appears during the cooking process. No wonder so many sweet snacks that use this leaf. For example Bandung diamonds, pudak, and dodol ayas typical of Gresik.

  1. Coconut Leaves

Many market snacks are wrapped using coconut leaves. Because the shape is elongated with a wide amount, it might be more suitable for wrapping food by rotating, as we find in clorot, sticky rice, or legondo typical of Yogyakarta.

  1. Bamboo Leaves

Elongated bamboo leaves are usually used as a wrapper of bakcang, Balinese gambier cakes, or tempeh. However, bamboo leaves cannot be used immediately before being picked, because there are fine hairs and dirt on the surface of the leaves. Bamboo leaves must first be cleaned and boiled until slightly withered.

 

However, the use of leaves as food wrappers becomes less hygienic and difficult to obtain. The use of food grade, hygienic, safe and not difficult to obtain paper is a characteristic of Baking Paper Seven. We can replace all of these types of leaves with Baking Paper.
