Although the microwave provides many benefits such as saving time and practical, but this tool still has weaknesses.
Here are 10 things that should not be included in the microwave:
- It must not be empty
Microwave focuses heat waves on an object.
If it is empty, no object is focused so it will heat the microwave itself. This can cause microwave damage or even an explosion.
- Paper bags
Food paper bags are coated with plastic inside so they don’t tear easily.
Plastic can melt when the microwave is turned on and will emit toxic fumes and can even catch fire.
- Aluminum foil
Aluminum is a type of metal.
Electromagnetic fields in the microwave can cause sparks when in contact with aluminum foil.
- Sauce
The heat will cause the sauce to expand and if it is not placed in a closed container, the sauce will be scattered.
- Chili
Chili can burn in the microwave. Even if it doesn’t burn, the heat will cause the chili to release chemicals. This chemical can burn the eyes (equivalent to pepper spray) when the user opens the microwave.
- Butter container
Most containers used to store milk products such as butter or yogurt are not dense enough to withstand high levels of heat.
Plastic can melt and contaminate food in it.
- Styrofoam
Styrofoam is very poisonous even at room temperature.
Styrofoam easily melts under high temperatures and risks contaminating food in it.
Several studies have also shown that styrofoam can release toxins that cause cancer.
- Traveling mugs
Traveling mugs are usually made of stainless steel.
As we know, steel is a type of metal and is not compatible with microwaves in microwaves.
- Wine
Water in high temperatures can expand.
This principle also applies to fruits that have a lot of water content such as grapes. Because the water in the fruit has no room to escape, it can make it explode.
- Frozen meat
Cooking frozen meat directly in the microwave is very risky because of uneven meat maturity.
Undercooked meat will produce bacterial spread and can cause food poisoning. It is recommended to thaw the meat first.
